Crab Table-Family Reunion

Crab Table-Family Reunion

By Sonya Cromwell

As Americans became interested in tracing their family history, Family Reunions became popular in the last 20 years particularly among African-Americans who were unable to easily trace their family because of slavery. This painting depicts a family reunion where the family reunion colors were baby blue and white. The family is gathered around the crab table eating crabs. In the Mississippi, Louisiana areas this might be called the "crawfish" table. In Maryland and the Washington D.C areas, this might be called the "blue-crab" table. In the mid-west, this might be called the "quilting table".
